Ângela Fernandes (PhD in Literary Theory, University of Lisbon, 2009) is Associate Professor of Hispanic Studies at the Department of Romance Literatures of the School of Arts and Humanities of the University of Lisbon, where she teaches graduate and undergraduate courses on Spanish Literature and Culture, Literary Theory and Comparative Literature.
She has been visiting professor at Indiana University – Bloomington (USA), and has taught in Erasmus mobility at Göttingen (Germany), Groningen (The Netherlands), Paris 7- Diderot (France) and Salzburg (Austria). She was director of the International FCT PhD Programme in Comparative Studies (2016-2023), vice-director of the Centre for Comparative Studies (2011-2013) and served as Associate Dean for Research of the School of Arts and Humanities of the University of Lisbon (2014-2016). She is currently secretary of the APLC – Portuguese Comparative Literature Association.
At the Centre for Comparative Studies of the University of Lisbon, she coordinates the research cluster DIIA – Diálogos Ibéricos e Ibero-Americanos, devoted to the study of Iberian and Ibero-american literary and cultural relations. She has been associate researcher of the funded project LAIDA – Literatura e Identidad, at the University of the Basque Country – Euskal Herriko Unibertsitatea.
