Ângela Fernandes (PhD in Literary Theory, University of Lisbon, 2009) is an Associate Professor of Hispanic Studies in the Department of Romance Literatures at the Faculty of Letters of the University of Lisbon, where she teaches courses in Spanish Literature and Culture, Literary Theory, and Comparative Literature.
She has been a visiting professor in the Department of Comparative Literature at Indiana University – Bloomington (USA), and has taught through Erasmus mobility at the universities of Bologna (Italy), Goettingen (Germany), Groningen (Netherlands), Paris 7 – Diderot (France), and Salzburg (Austria). She served as director of the FCT International Doctoral Programme in Comparative Studies (2016–2023), vice-director of the Centre for Comparative Studies (2011–2013), and deputy director of the Faculty of Letters of the University of Lisbon, responsible for research (2014–2016).
At the Centre for Comparative Studies of FLUL, she coordinates the research subgroup DIIA – Iberian and Ibero-American Dialogues, which focuses on the study of Iberian and Ibero-American literary and cultural relations. She has collaborated on the research project LAIDA – Literature and Identity, funded by the University of the Basque Country – Euskal Herriko Unibertsitatea.
