Patricia Couto was born in Amsterdam (1950), studied Germanic Philology in Coimbra (FLUC, 1975) and holds a MA in Comparative Literature (FLUL, 1996) and a PhD in Translation Studies (FLUL, 2012). She has taught Dutch Language and Culture at the University of Lisbon and has translated works by Jan Slauerhoff, Gerrit Komrij, Cees Nooteboom, Etty Hillesum, Stefan Hertmans and Marieke Lucas Rijneveld. At the moment she is preparing her translation of Max Havelaar (1860) by Multatuli.
