Rafael Gallo
rafael@rafaelgallo.com.brRafael Gallo is pursuing a Ph.D. in Comparative Studies at the Faculty of Letters of the University of Lisbon. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Music, with a major in Composition and Conducting, from the São Paulo State University (UNESP), and a Master’s degree from the Graduate Program in Audiovisual Media and Processes at the University of São Paulo (USP). As a writer, he won the José Saramago Literary Prize for his novel “Dor fantasma,” published in 2023 by Porto Editora in Portugal and by Globo Livros in Brazil. He has taught in the areas of Sound and Music for Audiovisual Media at AIC—International Film Academy; at UFSCar—Federal University of São Carlos; and at FIB—Integrated Colleges of Bauru. For his doctoral studies, he has been working on the research project “The Soundtrack in Literary Adaptations for Cinema: Vertigo, Psycho, and The Birds,” in which he explores how the use of music, voice, and sound effects acts as a tool for intersemiotic transposition in such adaptations.
