Chat GPT and AI: the future of humanity from the perspective of the humanities

26 September 2023 | 17:00—19:00 | Auditorium III, FLUL

The launch of Chat GPT, in November 2022, brought to light the discussion about the directions of technological development – in this particular case, artificial intelligence – and its potential for disruption. In recent months, we’ve been discussing its impacts on the education system, in the job market, and in human nature itself. Controversies aside, the fact is that the current stage of technological development already has changed our ways of being, thinking and living in society. Up to this date, much of the debate has been led by specialists in the Exact sciences, without much presence from the Humanities. As a result, topics such as promotion, reinforcement or perpetuation of prejudices and social asymmetries, justice and ethics, among many others, directly associated with the use of certain algorithms or artificial intelligence systems, often remain in the background. In this decisive debate about which paths we want to follow, with regard to the development of new intelligence technologies, it is essential that everyone participates. This meeting aims to contribute to giving visibility to the Humanities perspective on the future of humanity.
