Colóquio Internacional Colonialismos e Colonialidades: teorias e circulações em francês e em português

Colonialismes et Colonialités: théories et circulations en portugais et en français

4 September 2023 | 09:00—19:00 | Biblioteca Nacional de Portugal

On September 4, the Colóquio Internacional Colonialismos e Colonialidades: teorias e circulações em francês e em português/Colonialismes et Colonialités: théories et circulations en portugais et en français [International Conference Colonialisms and Colonialities: theories and circulations in French and Portuguese] will be held at the National Library of Portugal. Organized by the Centre for Comparative Studies and the School of Arts and Humanities of the Universidade deLisboa, the conference has no compulsory registration and is free to attend.

The International Conference Colonialisms and Colonialities: theories and circulations in French and in Portuguese presents the research results of the CILIPO-FP project (Circulations of postcolonial literature in French and in Portuguese), funded by the Bourgeon device of the Jean Moulin Lyon 3 University in 2022. The challenge of thinking about the circulations between two complex linguistic systems, which imply global contexts and historicities, was launched to fourteen researchers at twelve universities in Brazil, Portugal and France. Starting from the terms “Colonialisms” and “colonialities”, the conference assumes a common vocabulary, which it seeks to discuss: the one in which the Portuguese language and the French language spread throughout the world.

The conference will close with a book launch. The volume to be launched during the event is a digital, bilingual and interactive book. It is also hoped that Colonialisms and Colonialities: theories and circulations in French and Portuguese will serve to expand the network of researchers interested in the theme of historical colonialisms and contemporary colonialities in terms of circulation and reception. The organizing team of the conference hopes that this will be the first of many meetings favorable to the strengthening of the COS network, constituted around this theme.

The Conference is coordinated by Nuno Medeiros (University of Lisbon), Natália Guerellus (Université Jean Moulin Lyon 3), and José Eduardo Franco (Universidade Aberta).
