POR-POL NET: Contemporary Net Art Colloquium
23 June 2023 | University of Lisbon (FLUL-School of Arts and Humanities), Room B.112D

POR-POL NET is a Polish-Portuguese project dedicated to new forms of networking and the influence of the Internet phenomena on visual arts, literature, and music. It stems from the cooperation established between the Centre for Comparative Studies at the University of Lisbon (PT) and Academia Artium Humaniorum at Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń (PL), and the support of Academy of Fine Arts in Gdańsk (PL) and Adam Mickiewicz Institute. Focused on some of the most recent examples of works and ideas coming from the two opposite sides of the European continent, the initiative aims at provoking a broader reflection on generational and technological shifts inscribed in the notion of net art, the emergence of the so-called vernacular digital cultures (Trevor J. Blank), and the formulation of the new concepts in literary theory, artivism, and curatorship.
The one-day, international colloquium, is intended as a critical follow-up to a series of exhibitions and accompanying events that will be taking place both in Poland and Portugal throughout the whole month of June. As such, it will combine a roundtable with artists and curators involved in the project and a series of presentations coming from the specialists in the field, including Domenico Quaranta from Brera Academy in Milan (IT) and Ryszard W. Kluszczyński from the Academy of Fine Arts in Łódź (PL).
The full list of speakers and the complete program of the event can be found on the official website of the project (https://www.porpol.net/colloquium).
