Gisella de Amorim Serrano holds a degree in History (2002), a PhD in History and Political Cultures (2009) and also a post-doctoral degree (2011 and 2012) in History from the Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (CNPQ and FAPEMIG scholarship). Her thesis won the Fernão Mendes Pinto prize (2010) awarded by the Association of Portuguese Language Universities, the Community of Portuguese Language Countries and the Camões Institute. She is currently a post-doctoral fellow in Culture and Communication Studies at the programme in Culture and Communication of the School of Arts and Humanities of the Universidade de Lisboa where she is developing the project entitled: “The Luso-Brazilian Exchange Section (SILB): Culture, publishing policies, publications and propaganda in the Brazilian Section of the SPN/SNI and the António Quadros Foundation (1941-1974)”.
She is a full member researcher at the Centre for Comparative Studies, in the CITCOM group, Citizenship, Critical Cosmopolitanism, Modernity/ies, (Post)Colonialism, in the subgroup Citizenship, Media and Cultural Production, conducting her research activity in the project/line of Written Cultures and Dimensions of Creation, Production and Consumption: from print to digital, from transmedia to the transnational. She is a collaborating researcher at the History Centre of the University of Lisbon. She also collaborates as a researcher in the group Brasiliana Collection: Writings and Readings of the Nation (1931-1941), coordinated by Eliana Dutra at the Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais, and in the project History and Historiography of Minas Gerais, coordinated by Marta Araújo at the João Pinheiro Foundation. She was a visiting researcher at João Pinheiro Foundation (in different periods between 2015 and 2018).
She is the author of works, articles and academic chapters, mainly in the fields of history, history teaching, publishing, the State, relations between culture, politics and the nation. She has also published several textbooks and other educational publications. She has a specialization in Supervision, Orientation and School Inspection EAD by the Educational Society of Santa Catarina. She has experience as a teacher in higher education and in elementary/basic education.
